Air India will pay over ₹1.25 crore to each family of those killed in the Flight 171 crash—India’s worst aviation disaster in 10+ years. CEO Campbell Wilson called it a “commitment” to grieving families, on top of the ₹1 crore already pledged by Tata Sons.
The crash, which killed all aboard, followed a distress call: “Mayday… no thrust, losing power.” The plane plunged just 650 feet after takeoff.
Recovery teams are working round-the-clock in Ahmedabad; black boxes have been recovered and international experts have joined the probe. DNA testing is underway to identify remains, with families waiting in agony.
India’s DGCA has ordered safety checks on all Boeing 787s. “We are devastated,” Wilson said. “We mourn with the families and will honour every life lost.”
