THE SIN OF CREMATION according to the

Cremation and Christian Faith

Cremation has become increasingly common due to practicality, affordability, and environmental concerns.

Yet many Christians ask, “Is cremation a sin according to the Bible?”

The Bible does not explicitly forbid cremation.

While burial was most common—figures like Abraham and Jesus were buried—cremation itself is not condemned.

Some argue it dishonors the body, described as a “temple of the Holy Spirit,”

but others emphasize that the soul, not the physical remains, matters most.

Historically, burial symbolized respect and tradition, while cremation was linked to pagan practices.

Today, many Christian leaders note that cremation does not affect salvation or resurrection:

God’s power to restore life is not limited by how the body is handled.

Ultimately, cremation is a personal choice, shaped by faith, culture, and family values.

The focus remains on the hope of eternal life promised in scripture.
