Man trapped behind fridge for 10 years – haunting simulation shows what happened to his body

The Tragic Mystery of Larry Ely Murillo-Moncada: A Disappearance Solved Nearly a Decade Later

The 25-year-old had just returned from a Thanksgiving shift at the grocery store where he worked. According to reports, his behavior that evening appeared unusual and distressed.

His mother later explained that he believed someone was following him.

“He said somebody was following him, and he was scared.”
When Murillo-Moncada failed to return home, his family reported him missing the following day. Search efforts began almost immediately. Flyers appeared across the city, police contacted friends and relatives, and investigators tried to track his movements.

Despite those efforts, no clear leads ever emerged.

As weeks passed without any sign of him, the case slowly went cold, leaving his family with painful uncertainty about what had happened.

A shocking discovery years later

Nearly ten years later, the mystery took a tragic turn.

In 2019, workers began dismantling equipment inside a former grocery store building that had once housed a No Frills Supermarket. The store had closed several years earlier, and contractors were clearing out large refrigerators and shelving units.

While removing one of the large cooler systems, workers made a disturbing discovery.

Human remains were found wedged behind one of the massive refrigerator units.
Authorities were called to the scene, and investigators quickly realized the remains might belong to the man who had disappeared almost a decade earlier.

Sgt. Brandon Danielson, who had worked on the original missing-person case, immediately suspected the identity of the remains.

This is the first time in my career that I’ve seen a body in this type of condition.”
Although the remains were too badly decomposed to be visually identified, DNA testing later confirmed they belonged to Murillo-Moncada.

A tragic accident inside the supermarket

Investigators believe that after leaving his home during the snowstorm, Murillo-Moncada returned to the supermarket where he had previously worked.

Employees at the store had sometimes climbed on top of large cooler units while restocking shelves. Authorities believe he may have attempted something similar.

At some point, he appears to have slipped and fallen headfirst into a narrow gap between the refrigerators and the wall — a drop estimated to be about 12 feet.

Once inside the tight space, escape would have been extremely difficult.

Even calling for help may not have worked.

According to investigators, the loud noise produced by the refrigeration system could easily have drowned out any cries for assistance.

“It’s so loud, there’s probably no way anyone heard him.”
An autopsy later found no signs of trauma, leading authorities to conclude that his death was the result of a tragic accident.

A mother’s intuition

One haunting detail in the case was the belief expressed by Murillo-Moncada’s mother during the early years of the search.

She reportedly suspected that her son had never actually left the supermarket where he worked.

Investigators were never certain what led her to that conclusion, but when the remains were finally discovered, her intuition appeared eerily accurate.

A case unlike most missing-person investigations

Cases where missing individuals are discovered hidden within buildings for years are extremely rare.

Sgt. Danielson later described the discovery as one of the most unusual he had encountered in his career.

“You don’t hear about these types of cases, people found in walls.”
The tragic reality was that Murillo-Moncada’s body remained inside the store while it continued operating for years — unnoticed until the building was eventually emptied.

A simulation that reveals how it may have happened

After details of the case became public, an online simulation began circulating that attempted to recreate the accident.

The reconstruction shows how a person could fall into the narrow gap behind the refrigerator units and become completely hidden from view.

The simulation also highlights how the constant mechanical noise from the cooling system could easily drown out calls for help.

In the video’s final moments, the chilling image of a skeleton wedged behind the freezers underscores just how hidden the space was.

A tragedy that finally found answers

For nearly a decade, Murillo-Moncada’s family lived without knowing what had happened to him. The discovery in 2019 finally brought answers, even if those answers were heartbreaking.

Authorities ultimately closed the case, classifying his death as an accidental tragedy.

What remains is a reminder of how easily accidents can occur in hidden spaces — and how sometimes the truth behind a disappearance can remain concealed for years before finally coming to light.

What do you think about the reconstruction showing how this accident may have unfolded? Many people find the details both tragic and unsettling.
