Brown University Shooting Suspect Identified

Law enforcement has confirmed the identity of the suspect in the tragic Brown University shooting. Authorities revealed his name after days of investigation and a multi‑state manhunt.

Suspect Named

Police identified the man suspected of the deadly shooting at Brown University as Claudio Manuel Neves Valente. He was 48 years old, a Portuguese national, and a former graduate student at Brown University.

Later, authorities also linked Valente to the murder of an MIT professor, Nuno Loureiro, at his home in Brookline, Massachusetts.

How Police Found Him

First, investigators traced a rental car seen near both crime scenes. Then, they tied that vehicle to Valente through records from a Boston rental agency.

After tracking the car to a storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire, officers found Valente’s body inside a rented unit. He had died from a self‑inflicted gunshot wound.

Manhunt and Investigation

The shooting at Brown University on December 13, 2025, left two students dead and nine others injured. Police launched a widespread search that included local, state, and federal agencies.

Two days later, on December 15, Valente is believed to have shot MIT physics professor Nuno Loureiro at his home. Loureiro died in a Boston hospital the next day.

Authorities say he acted alone, and they have not yet publicly confirmed a motive.
