Lawrence Jones and Nala: The Anchor and His Loyal Dog

Lawrence Jones and His Loyal Companion, Nala

Life on the road and in front of the camera can be unpredictable for Fox News host Lawrence Jones. Yet one presence keeps him grounded: his service dog, Nala. More than a pet, Nala has become part of his story—a visible symbol of resilience and the bond between humans and working dogs. Jones often shares their connection with his audience.

A Public Introduction

Jones first introduced Nala to the public in September 2022. He posted a photo on Instagram, instantly sparking curiosity. Who was this black-and-tan dog always by his side, from television sets to airport gates? The answer was deeply personal.

The Story Behind Nala

Years earlier, Jones covered a story about Raptor, a decorated Special Forces dog praised as one of the most heroic K-9s of the War on Terror. While reporting, he felt an unexpected connection. “She just would not leave me alone,” he recalled, describing the bond as instant and unusual.

Half-joking, Jones told the handlers that if anyone could find a pup from Raptor’s bloodline, he’d take it. Months later, a photo arrived—Nala. Jones calls that moment life-changing, a full-circle connection he will never forget.

Training for Service

From the beginning, Nala was more than a companion; she was a service dog in training. Jones partnered with Baden K9, an organization that trains dogs to assist veterans with PTSD.

Viewers of Lawrence Jones Cross Country have glimpsed Nala’s rigorous training. In one segment, Jones tested her in New York City. Cameras followed as Nala navigated noisy, crowded streets with calm precision, proving her readiness for real-world challenges.

Their connection only deepened over time. In interviews, Jones calls Nala a “gift,” openly sharing how attached he has become. On Dana Perino’s Short Questions series, he revealed that people often notice Nala before him in airports. “She’s the star,” he laughed. The name “Nala” comes from The Lion King. “I’m Simba… and she’s Nala,” he said.

Honoring a Legacy

Nala has also reunited with Raptor in training updates, showing the two dogs working side by side. For Jones, the experience is both surreal and moving. It reconnects him to the dog that first inspired him and honors a proud service lineage.

Inspiring New Goals

Beyond public appearances, Nala has guided Jones in new directions. He’s pursuing his own K-9 trainer certification, inspired by watching her grow. The discipline, trust, and partnership required, he says, “changed the way I look at responsibility.”
