Grandmother sentenced after baby left in hot car dies less than a year after another grandchild died while in her care

A Florida grandmother, Tracey Nix, has been sentenced to five years in prison after her infant granddaughter, Uriel Schock, tragically died in a hot car while under her care in November 2022.

Nix had forgotten the baby was in the car after a lunch outing and went inside to practice the piano. The temperature had reached 90°F, and Uriel died of hyperthermia. This was the second child Nix has lost, as her other grandchild drowned in her care in 2022. Nix admitted to forgetting the baby and expressed remorse, though she was not found guilty of aggravated manslaughter.
