17-Year-Old Athlete Austin Metcalf Dies During High School Track Meet — Details

A routine high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, took a heartbreaking turn on April 2, 2025, when 17-year-old Austin Metcalf was fatally stabbed during a confrontation with another student.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. at Kuykendall Stadium, and despite emergency responders performing life-saving efforts, Austin died from his injuries at the scene. His twin brother, Hunter, witnessed the attack and desperately tried to stop the bleeding, holding Austin in his arms as he passed away,

According to Austin’s father, Jeff Metcalf, the altercation began when the attacker was told he was in the wrong location, and Austin didn’t know the student who attacked him. Austin, a high-achieving student with a 4.0 GPA and the MVP of his school’s football team, was described by his father as a leader with a bright future ahead of him. His tragic death has left his family, friends, and the school community in shock and mourning.

The 17-year-old suspect, who has been arrested and charged with murder, remains in custody. Jeff Metcalf, despite his grief, expressed forgiveness, saying, “God will take care of me and my family.” In the wake of the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign created by Jeff has raised over $175,000 to help with funeral expenses and support the family,

Hunter, still deeply affected by the loss, spoke publicly about the pain of losing his twin and his attempt to save Austin’s life. The entire community has been shaken by this senseless act of violence, and the investigation is ongoing as authorities work to uncover the full details surrounding the stabbing.
