The firearm was a powerful bolt-action rifle, and according to FBI special agent in charge Robert Bohls, they think it was “the weapon that was used in yesterday’s shooting.”

It is believed that the gunman fled the scene because the rifle was found in a wooded location.

According to the BBC, the FBI has also discovered and is examining a “footwear impression, a palm print, and a forearm imprint.”

In order to find the shooter, the FBI is mostly depending on the public’s assistance. They have asked individuals to submit images and videos from yesterday’s campus event.

According to Bohls, they have already had 130 tips.

In other places, Bohls seemed to corroborate that the shooter is a man and that the FBI has pictures of the suspect that they intend to make public soon.

The suspect is not believed to pose a threat to the larger community, Bohls continued.

It is said that the shooter ‘fitted in well with the college institution’, indicating that he is of or near college age.

“We’re not releasing many details right now. We will soon. But right now, we’re not,” Bohls said, adding: “But that individual appears to be of college age.”

Utah DPS Commissioner Beau Mason stated during the news conference that they currently have “good video footage” of the suspect, which they are still reviewing.

Mason has told Kirk’s family that they are “devastated” by his passing.

“I can only imagine what they’re going through,” he continued. “This is not Utah. This is not what we are known for.”

According to a statement from the Utah Department of Public Safety, Kirk attended an event yesterday that drew around 3,000 people.

It further stated that Kirk’s personal security detail was present at the event, along with six officers from the campus police department.

According to Utah Valley University, the campus was evacuated right after and stayed closed.

There will be no more classes till further notice.

Those who remained on campus were instructed to remain there until police could safely remove them.
