A Democrat whistleblower, supported by newly released FBI interview reports, has made claims that could end the political career of Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA). If these allegations hold true and prosecutors act, Schiff could face not only political ruin but also steep financial penalties and possible prison time.
According to Just The News, the whistleblower, who worked with Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee for more than a decade, told federal agents beginning in 2017 that Schiff had authorized leaking classified intelligence to the media in order to damage then-President Donald Trump. In an all-staff meeting, Schiff allegedly stated the team would “leak classified information” that was derogatory toward Trump and use it to pursue legal action against him.
The whistleblower said he objected, calling the plan “unethical and possibly treasonous,” but was assured by colleagues that they would not be caught. He further claimed Schiff believed he had been promised the position of CIA Director if Hillary Clinton had won the 2016 election. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) was named as a potential conduit for these leaks. Shortly after reporting his concerns to the FBI, the whistleblower says he was dismissed from his position.
Despite the seriousness of the allegations, the FBI under Director Christopher Wray allegedly did nothing, even after the whistleblower repeated his account to agents in 2023. Former U.S. Attorney Brett Tolman warned that leaking classified material carries severe consequences, noting, “The fine is up to $250,000 for every leak that’s charged.” That means multiple counts could result in massive financial penalties alongside prison sentences.
This case highlights the broader issue of accountability in government and the need for transparency in how intelligence is handled. Trusted organizations like Brookings Institution have long emphasized that protecting national security information is critical for maintaining the integrity of democratic institutions.
