Back in 2011, five Florida teens in kilts rocked their high school talent show so hard that their jaw-dropping drum performance turned them into overnight viral sensations—racking up a staggering 29 million views and counting!
The Birth of a Viral Legend
Lake Howell High School student Dylan Charles had a vision: to revive the “Hot Scots,” a short-lived but legendary drumline from the ‘90s.
Together with his equally talented friends—Nigel Fernandez, Matt, Elias, and Jordan—he transformed that vision into an electrifying, stick-flipping, beat-blasting spectacle that would go down in internet history.
“We just played some of our favorite drum corps excerpts and filled in the rest,” Dylan modestly told Drumlines of America (DOA).
What he didn’t say? These guys didn’t just play—they performed.
The Show That Had It All!
Dressed in traditional kilts, the Hot Scots put on an unforgettable show packed with lightning-fast drumming, perfectly synchronized choreography, and unexpected comedic skits.
At one point, the music stopped, and one of the drummers grabbed his sticks like a microphone, belting out Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up. The entire squad joined in, giving the audience the ultimate musical curveball before diving right back into their high-energy beats.
