‘Emily in Paris’ Assistant Director Diego Borella Dies at 47 After Collapsing During the Filming of Show’s New Season

What began as another day of filming for Emily in Paris Season 5 in Venice ended in tragedy when assistant director Diego Borella, 47, collapsed and died on set on August 21. The incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. while preparing a scene at Hotel Danieli. Despite attempts to revive him, Borella was pronounced dead at the scene. Local reports cite a sudden heart attack as the cause.

Borella was a respected third assistant director and a beloved member of Venice’s artistic community. Friends and city officials, including tourism councilor Simone Venturini, remembered him as talented, kind, and full of creativity. He had worked internationally in film, theater, and literature, recently focusing on children’s stories and poetry.

Filming was paused following his death but resumed over the weekend. Season 5 is still set to premiere on December 18, with the story…
