Early this morning, residents across the Bronx, Manhattan, and parts of Brooklyn reported intense shaking, loud booms, and trembling floors. “I thought it was an explosion,” said one witness. “Everything moved for a few seconds, then silence.”

This marks the second major quake in recent days. The first was dismissed by some experts as a “rare event.” But now? People are asking the question no one wants to answer:
