Liverpool star Diogo Jota, 28, tragically lost his life in a car accident early Thursday morning in Zamora, Spain. The crash also took the life of his younger brother, André Silva, 25. Their vehicle veered off the A-52 highway, a road known for its dangerous conditions, and caught fire. The accident was so severe that both brothers’ bodies were badly burned, requiring DNA testing to confirm their identities.
Authorities believe the crash was caused by a tire explosion during an overtaking maneuver, which made the driver lose control of the car. The vehicle, reportedly a Lamborghini, crashed and ignited quickly, making rescue efforts difficult. Jota and his brother were reportedly traveling to catch a ferry to Great Britain ahead of Liverpool’s preseason matches.
