\u00c9rika Deyanira Morales, a 20-year-old woman who became quadriplegic after being attacked with a bottle in a bar when she was 17, had her final wish granted on Saturday, March 1, 2025.<\/p>\n
With the help of her family, the young woman, who was originally from Los Andres, Sotomayo (Nari\u00f1o), had communicated her desire for euthanasia, highlighting the daily emotional and physical suffering she experienced. Morales\u2019s family, however, claims that her EPS Emssanar had refused to allow her to have the surgery.<\/p>\n
Her death was confirmed on Saturday afternoon after the health authority authorized the procedure on February 22 due to Tatiana Morales\u2019s and her sister\u2019s insistence and the case\u2019s virality. She shared a picture of the two of them along with the message, \u201cFly high, my beautiful angel, I love you always, little sister,\u201d on WhatsApp. She subsequently posted another picture of Erika\u2019s hands beside hers, signifying the two sisters\u2019 unbreakable bond.<\/p>\n
It has not yet been determined whether Morales\u2019 recent medical issues were the direct cause of his passing, but local media reports indicate that he had been dealing with them.<\/p>\n
Public attention was drawn to Erika\u2019s case, particularly as a result of the social media posts her family made describing the trying circumstances she had faced recently. \n\u00c9rika, who was 17 at the time, went to a bar in Pasto (Nari\u00f1o) on August 2, 2021, with her friends. Morales suffered multiple strokes and a severe spinal cord injury that left her quadriplegic after she was struck by a whiskey bottle in the restroom, reportedly during an argument.<\/p>\n
Her life was drastically changed by this incident, which had an impact on both her mental and physical health. Morales regained consciousness a year and seven months after leaving critical condition, but she was still unable to move or breathe on her own. Tatiana told Caracol Radio, \u201cMy mother was informed by the specialist that the prognosis was not encouraging.\u201d<\/p>\n
