He shifts slightly, his little ears twitching at every new sound outside the window. I see it in his face\u2014curiosity battling with uncertainty. Where is he going? Will this place be good? Will he be wanted?<\/p>\n

I decide to name him Rusty, partly because of his gold-flecked eyes and partly because I want him to have a name that feels warm, like a comforting fireplace on a cold evening. Rusty.
