Our philosophy is inspired by the extraordinary story of Emma \u201cGrandma\u201d Gatewood.<\/p>\n
At 67 years old, after surviving more than three decades of domestic violence, Emma did something no one expected. With no formal training, no modern equipment, and no audience, she set out alone to walk the entire Appalachian Trail\u20142,168 miles of mountains, wilderness, and uncertainty.<\/p>\n
She carried almost nothing: a homemade bag, a shower curtain for shelter, simple food, and canvas sneakers. What she carried most was something invisible but unbreakable\u2014the will to prove to herself that she was still capable, still strong, still free.<\/p>\n
The trail was not just a physical challenge.
\nIt was an act of reclamation.<\/p>\n
Emma walked away from fear and toward possibility. She walked to take back ownership of her body, her choices, and her life. And she didn\u2019t stop there. She completed the trail three times, walked thousands more miles across America, and lived her final years with more courage and vitality than most people ever allow themselves.<\/p>\n
