\nBruce Willis\u2019s wife, Emma Heming, recently spoke out about the difficult decision to move the actor into a specialized dementia care facility. Despite public backlash, she earned the support of his ex-wife, Demi Moore.<\/p>\n
The 70-year-old Die Hard star was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2022. This forced his family to rethink daily life. In an ABC special with Diane Sawyer, Emma and Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey, which aired August 26, 2025, Emma revealed the moment she realized their family home was no longer enough.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was one of the hardest decisions I\u2019ve had to make so far,\u201d she admitted. She emphasized that the move was about meeting everyone\u2019s needs, not stepping back. \u201cBruce would want our daughters to grow up in a space tailored to their needs, not his. That\u2019s why this had to be his second home.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nA Home Filled with Love
\nEmma described the new facility as warm and family-like, with round-the-clock professional support. She highlighted that she and their children still spend meaningful time with Bruce. \u201cIt\u2019s a house filled with love, warmth, care, and laughter,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Handling Public Backlash
\nAfter the special aired, Emma faced criticism online. Some accused her of abandoning her husband. She responded on Instagram:<\/p>\n
\u201cI knew by sharing our story we\u2019d see two camps: people with opinions, and people with actual experience,\u201d she said on August 29. Quoting her therapist (and later in her memoir The Unexpected Journey), Emma added: \u201cEveryone will have an opinion, but most don\u2019t have the experience to back it up. And if that\u2019s the case, they shouldn\u2019t offer their two cents.\u201d<\/p>\n
She reminded critics that every dementia case is unique. \u201cEven if someone is familiar with the disease, they\u2019re not in our home. They don\u2019t know our family dynamics. Opinions are loud, but if they don\u2019t have the experience, they don\u2019t get a say, and they definitely don\u2019t get a vote.\u201d<\/p>\n
