\nOn Wednesday, Robin Westman opened fire at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.<\/p>\n
He later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Over 100 rifle rounds were found at the scene.<\/p>\n
Students\u2019 Courage
\nMiddle schoolers protected younger students through a \u201cbuddy system.\u201d<\/p>\n
Michael Burt said, \u201cThe first action by those middle schoolers was to push their buddies down under the pew.<\/p>\n
Which is why the middle schoolers were the ones that were standing the longest and were largely the injured, acting in heroism.\u201d<\/p>\n
Teachers and First Responders
\nMarty Scheerer praised the staff: \u201cChildren protecting other children often laid on the floor and covered each other up while teachers ushered kids to safety.<\/p>\n
That was key.\u201d Officers and medical responders acted immediately, helping limit casualties.<\/p>\n
Acts of Heroism
\nEven in hospitals, bravery continued. Dr. Jon Gayken recalled a nurse comforting a young patient during a CT scan.<\/p>\n
