Father Dies After Sand Dune Collapse<\/p>\n
A 28-year-old father of four, Kane Watson, died after being buried under a sand dune at Muriwai Beach near Auckland, New Zealand, on August 23.<\/p>\n
Tragic Accident<\/p>\n
Watson was digging and playing with his children when a dune suddenly collapsed, trapping him headfirst.<\/p>\n
He remained buried for 15 minutes as his kids ran for help.<\/p>\n
Rescuers freed him and took him to Auckland City Hospital, where he died the next day.<\/p>\n
Expert Warning<\/p>\n
University of Auckland lecturer Colin Whittaker warned, \u201cIf you\u2019ve got a big dune above you\u2026 you\u2019ve potentially got something that weighs as much as an elephant collapsing on top of you.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cIt\u2019s incredibly challenging to do\u201d a rescue.<\/p>\n
Family Heartbreak<\/p>\n
A fundraiser described Watson as a \u201cdevoted father\u201d with a baby on the way.<\/p>\n
